FACTIOD FRIDAY!
I'm sure Santa left video games for someone in your life this Christmas. My son got an Nintendo DS plus he and his sister got several games for the wii system.(which I played for about two hours after they went to bed.) So in honor of these games systems I give you "Factoids" on Video games.
- In 1972, the first commercial video game console that could be played in the home, the Odyssey was released by Magnavox and designed by Ralph Baer. The game machine was originally designed while Ralph Baer was still at Sanders Associates in 1966, Baer managed to gain his legal rights to the machine after Sanders Associates rejected it. The Odyssey came programmed with twelve games.
- On June 17, 1980, Atari's "Asteroids" and "Lunar Lander" were the first two video games to ever be registered in the Copyright Office.
- October 27, 1992, Nintendo of America Inc. registered the configuration of its hand-held game machine.
- Contrary to popular belief, Pong was not the world's first video arcade game, Computer Space," by Nutting Associates, was released first in 1971). However, Pong was the first video game to achieve widespread popularity in both the arcade and home console markets, and it is credited with launching the initial boom in the video game industry.
